Pay Per View Boxing-As most of you probably know now, Floyd Mayweather Jr. makes his return to the ring tonight, in the fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. And Mayweather has certainly proved many times before, that he can attract the fans.
According to hbo.com, Floyd’s ability to attract the fans will be put to the test tonight, with the scheduled 12-round welterweight fight in Las Vegas. Fans, who want to watch the fight, will have to pay $49.95 on pay-per-view.
This particular fight has appeared to do very well in ticket sales. The CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer said that when they announced the fight was to be postponed, they had over $5.6 million in ticket sales.
With Mayweather’s return to the ring tonight, he and his backers are hoping that his box office appeal picks up where it left off in 2007. This was when he generated 3.4 million pay-per-view buys and a reported $250 million gross.
