Von Trapp Family

Von Trapp FamilyThe Von Trapp family, memorialized in The Sound of Music and The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, fled from the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany and ended up in the state of Vermont. In 1950, a 27-room ski lodge was opened. In 1983, the old lodge was shut down and a new, Austrian-style lodge with 93 rooms was opened

Today, the Trapp Family Lodge has added 23 rooms and 100 guesthouses (available through Timeshare only]]. The Lodge has a gym, tennis courts, sleigh rides, and many other activities. It has a gourmet restaurant, and easy access to skiing, maple sugaring, the Stowe Recreation Path, and downtown Stowe.

The Condé Nast Traveler said of the Trapp Family Lodge, “For fans of the Sound of Music, it’s the ultimate nostalgia trip: Maria von Trapp’s Austrian-style lodge complete with live music and family sing-alongs, but it’s the real deal, not kitschy.”

The Lodge is one of the principal sites for the annual Vermont Mozart Festival.
